My knowledge of the North Fork Recreation District was minimal until, after a long wait, Hotchkiss Home Plate decided to explore building new baseball fields. I had the opportunity to spend lots of time with Lenore Cambria, former NFPPRD District Administrator, who taught me all the potential programs that the rec district had to offer and it’s master plan. Not only did she teach me what there was to offer, but helped me understand how to get programs off the ground. It sounds so simple to say, “Hey, we want this program.” But to really see what creating a program entails and the work that is put in, is amazing to see. I knew I wanted to be involved in such exciting adventures.
Baseball is very much in my family’s blood. My son has played since the Pee Wee years and will be graduating high school this year. My husband served with me on the Hotchkiss Home Plate Baseball board and continues coaching for the JV baseball program at North Fork High School. The pool and surrounding trails (new and old) have been amazing sources of support for better health. With the new access trail coming I am super excited to see what will unfold in the next year.
We are truly lucky to have the community we do. The support and clubs that volunteers built, continue to grow and truly show that we want to share our enjoyment for the outdoors. I hope to see you and your family enjoying the programs as much as I have enjoyed helping to create and sustain them.
